PROJECT: Documentation Center
LOCATION: Copenhagen, DK  |  SIZE: 12,000 sf
STUDIO: DIS Architectural Design Studio
PROFESSOR: Susanne Andersen
DATE: Spring 2004

DESCRIPTION: Exhibition space for the concrete industry to educate visitors about the history and application of the industry through the building’s materiality. Concrete was used extensively to demonstrate the material’s aesthetic qualities as opposed to its structural capabilities. A pattern of vertical lines of varying widths is accomplished through the formwork.

The design draws on the rectilinear grid of the site on Holmen to illustrate the placement of the planes enclosing the large, unobstructed exhibition space. Forming a bold gesture on the landscape, the entrance opens up and rises above the other planes, breaking the strict grid on which the building is sited.
